...Heros.

Hey y'all. It's Ashlee writing all about my heros! Enjoy!

In my eyes farmers and ranchers are heroes. Because I grew up in agriculture, I have an inside perspective of just how much pride agriculturalist have. I grew up seeing my daddy work tirelessly caring and protecting animals, preserving the land, and growing healthy food for not only our family but for thousands of others. On the difficult days I ask him why he would ever put himself through the stress, sweat, tears, or even the 100 hour work weeks? He answers “Farming- it is in my blood. I do not do it for any other reason than the simple fact that we exist to protect, sustain, and preserve while feeding our portion of the world”.

I see the joy in his eyes as he watches our new baby calves test out their new wobbly legs. I see the gratification when the hours of planning and hard work emerge through the warm spring soil as the tender plants begin to grow. I see his satisfaction when the crops are harvested and are on the tables of American families. And I see love in his eyes when he teaches the next generation, just as the previous generation taught him.

My daddy has taught us all to take pride in the land God has given us. Everything we do is to ensure the land will continue to provide for future generations. This can only be accomplished by protecting the land and animals. Raised “The Mortimer Way” teaches us the best way to farm is to keep the soil, seeds, plants, animals, and water healthy. As we do our part, as agriculturalists, nature will step in to care for and protect the well-being of every plant and animal.

No, agriculture is not simple and definitely not easy but it is worth every single second. Our family grows food “The Mortimer Way” by developing better ways to sustain and protect our farm so it will be left to our grand-children better than we received it. We do it so we can pray for rain, shake hands with nature, smell freshly cut hay, see the beautiful cattle grazing, and so we can feed you!
