My days are filled with research - at least that’s what I choose to call looking at social media pages and websites that are similar to my family’s business – Mortimer Farms and Nursery. My mind starts turning and thinking outside of the box when I see the great things that others are doing at their farms, nurseries, ranches, stores, and businesses. Not too long ago I found myself searching the web in hopes to find someone as passionate as I when it comes to the smell of a real, fresh-cut Christmas tree! On this search I stumbled upon the “It’s Christmas. Keep it real.” campaign.
I love their mission statement: “Real Christmas trees bring real joy! The warm tradition, joyful scent and natural beauty that simply cannot be manufactured. Support North American farmers by celebrating the holidays with a real Christmas tree this season.”
I share three reasons a real Christmas tree is the answer:
“Growing, using, and recycling real Christmas trees is good for the environment.” It is true! Christmas tree farmers plant and grow thousands of trees. As soon as the tree is harvested a new tree is planted in its place. Then, it is our turn to help the environment – real Christmas trees are biodegradable! They can be recycled and used for mulch!
“Real Christmas trees provide real business for real farmers. Real Christmas trees are a crop, farmer-planted and hand-harvested specifically for people to enjoy.”
“The hunt for a real Christmas tree creates a special experience. From the scent to the search, no artificial tree can replace the experience and the memories of selecting a real Christmas tree with family and friends.”
My favorite Christmas tradition will always be my crazy and busy family stopping in their tracks to gather together and pick our perfect real Christmas tree! Ever since I can remember the Christmas tree search is full of laugher, pictures, and trying to find the biggest tree possible. One year, we were so set on having the biggest tree ever that we got home with a tree that skimmed the ceiling – any bigger it wouldn’t have fit inside of the house. That year, out of necessity, our tree topper angel had to be placed on the second row of branches. Putting the wonderful experience, the pine filled spaces, the smell, and the memories into words that come along with having a real Christmas tree is almost impossible – there just aren’t words extraordinary enough! From picking our family’s perfect tree to opening our home’s door up to the smell of pine to sitting around the tree with family and friends – it was and always will be the perfect tradition!
Come see us today at Mortimer Nursery or Mortimer Farms to join my family in enjoying the pure joy that is felt with “It’s Christmas. Keep it real.”
